About Jason Quick

SHORT BIO

Jason Quick is a guitarist, bandleader, composer and educator based out of Toledo, Ohio.  Quick’s namesake Trios and Quartets have been featured in an array of venues including historic Cliff Bell's in Detroit and Pittsburgh’s NOLA on the Square. His projects perform at clubs, events and festivals across the Great Lakes and Midwest regions, including the Whiskey Parlor in Detroit, Ziggy’s in Ypsilanti, Columbus Jazz & Ribs Festival, Defiance Jazz Festival, Carmel, Indiana’s Jazz on the Monon, and downtown Louisville’s former jazz basement, Jimmy Can’t Dance.  Quick Trio has been playing third Saturdays in residency at Wesley’s Bar for 3 years running.  Quick Quartet plays packed house performances at Toledo’s newest jazz listening room, Lucille’s Jazz Lounge. LONGER BIO

Jason Quick is an inventive guitarist, composer, and bandleader in contemporary music with a sound as expansive as the great lakes he grew up around. Quick immerses himself in music and process to create projects that navigate genres and styles.

Jason stays busy as a DIY guitarist, bandleader, composer, songwriter in Toledo, Ohio.  He lives with his wife, Sarah and their two dogs, Slide & Echo.

Bandleader for what is known as “Quick Trio” and “Quick Quartet”. Jason has brought his group, in the past recent years to venues in various locales such as Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, Columbus Jazz & Ribs Festival, an outdoor jazz concert in Carmel, Indiana (Jazz on the Monon), and the Toledo Museum of Art.  Since Summer 2021, the group has had an ongoing First and Third Saturday’s gig in Toledo at Wesley’s Bar (Uptown).  In 2022, Quick Trio played has played the new Lucille’s Jazz Lounge, returned to play the Jazz in the Garden at the Toledo Botanical Gardens and Crosby Festival for the Arts.

Jason hires to play in his groups some of the area’s most exciting voices in jazz.  Among the regulars: Ray Parker, Travis Aukerman, Jay Ronquillo, Gene Parker, Damen Cook, Scott Kretzer, Will Schneider, Dylan Bretz, Galen Bundy, Jon Hammonds, Brandon Benson. Depending on the night and availability, the creative sparks will fly and the personalities will make a statement.

 

In addition to the improvisational arts, Jason remains active solo and in group as singer and guitarist covering songwriter artists of a variety in modern americana, rock, blues and the old-time/new blood folksong forms.  You can hear him every month playing solo at his longtime anchor to the Toledo music scene, Manhattan’s on Adams street.

 

Jason also is active in the summertime as a lead electric guitar with his longtime musical cohort, Jeff Tucker in the Jeff Tucker Band, whom, together with bassist/vocalist Larry Smirin and drummer Stephen Klunk, played venues in Catawba Island, Charlevoix, Petosky, Cleveland and elsewhere in the summer of 2022.

Jason also has a passion for composing classical concert music.  In the summer of 2019, he had a premier of his string quartet, “Tangerine Strings” by members of the Toledo Symphony during the 4(19) String Quartet Festival.  Although he currently does not have a piece of his about to be performed, he hopes to make that happen sometime soon.

 

Jason also heads up a rock band that plays original material called Quickness.  The most recent recording release is from 2015.

 Jason began playing guitar at age 12. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Wayne State University, while also playing out around Detroit. Jason went on to receive his master’s in music in Guitar Performance from Bowling Green State University. For over 30 years, Jason has studied his instrument and played out and jammed wherever possible. In between gigs, Jason has taught guitar and musicology, both as an adjunct professor and as a private instructor.

Alumni of the Walden Creative Musicians Retreat. Also has attended the Alternative Guitar Summit Camp.

The philosophy behind Quick’s performing and composing, is his desire to keep moving ahead, developing his craft, connecting, and engaging with musicians, all while pursuing the path of creative exploration and presentation.
